The Phoenix Suns Bench is Moving in the Right Direction

© Chris Coduto- USA TODAY Sports

It was a great all-around win for the Phoenix Suns as they defeated the Philadelphia 76ers by a final score of 125-105. The Suns as a team stuffed the stat sheet on offense and played an all-around great game on defense.

Even though Devin Booker led the way with 29 points on 50% shooting, it was an all-around contribution from everyone that made the Suns’ losing drought this month look like a complete afterthought.

The one thing that stood out after watching the game was in fact how amazing the Suns’ bench looked on the floor tonight. It seems like in back-to-back nights the Suns’ bench has just found a way to score at will to help Devin Booker out.

With Kevin Durant coming back shortly and Ayton right behind him, the Suns are going to possibly look very scary if they can continue to get this product from the bench.

Terrence Ross dropped 30 last night against Sacramento and now 15 tonight against the 76ers. TJ Warren had 16 points on 58% from the floor and Cameron Payne had 14 points and 7 assists on the night. It was amazing to watch the bench unit operate in both the 2nd and 4th quarters as those quarters ended up being their highest-scoring quarters of the game.

The Suns benched as a whole scored 53 points and the 76ers only scored 17. Head coach Monty Williams was asked about the way the bench played tonight and if he finally feels like he has a sense of which guys to play in the second unit by now.

“Do I have it down no,” said Monty Williams referring to his bench rotation. “But I think we have a better idea of what we have.”

Williams also alluded to his coaching staff for wanting him to take a deeper look at playing Warren for more minutes. And now he’s reaping the benefits with him scoring 15.5 PPG on 56% shooting.

“I was just used to a lineup that I was just used to and that might’ve been a bit closed-minded. With Kevin being out and the coaches kind’ve getting on me a little bit just telling me I need to look at it and we’ve been giving T.J. a look and he’s been producing.”

Kevin Durant could return as soon as next Wednesday

Durant is expected to make his home debut on Wednesday after suffering a left ankle sprain, if the bench can continue to play the way they have been the past two games, look out when Durant and Ayton are in the lineup as well.
