Devin Booker On New Look Suns With Kevin Durant: “Can’t Put Into Words”

It feels crazy that it wasn’t that long ago when Devin Booker was asked about forming a super team back in 2018 when Monty Williams first joined the coaching staff. This was his answer in reference to that.

“I’d like to build a super team. I’d like the superteam to come to me.”

And now fast forward to five seasons later and the Suns have future hall-of-fame player Chris Paul on their squad along with new acquisition Kevin Durant on the team after a blockbuster trade sent him from Brooklyn to Phoenix last Thursday.

Booker was asked questions at today’s morning shoot-around about the state of the Phoenix Suns and he put things into perspective on where the team was and how far they’ve come since then.

“I think we’ve built something that the league has picked up on. We were probably the laughingstock of the NBA about 4-5 years ago and just turning that around and just turning that around to something serious to championship contenders is a quick turnaround for us.”

That quick turnaround started 3 years ago in the bubble when the Suns went on a 9-0 run and barely missed the playoffs. And then that moved forward to them landing Chris Paul and Jae Crowder which eventually got them to championship contention after they appeared in the finals later that season two years ago.

Last year the team won a franchise-record 64 games before falling short to the Mavericks in the second round. Now the team is looking to take that next step with Kevin Durant in the fold and doing whatever it takes to bring that trophy home to Phoenix.

“We take a lot of pride in what we’ve built here and for us to be a destination that people want to come to is a big sign of that. It shows respect for what we’ve done so far and we still have more to do you know but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Thanks to what they’ve built here, they’ve now landed a top 5 player in Kevin Durant that had Phoenix planted as one of the only destinations that he wanted to come to. Booker reacted to what it’s like being teammates with him.

“Can’t put into words man you know it’s just all feel. Looking forward to post All-Star break when we actually get the chance to compete with each other. We haven’t got to do that besides the Olympics with Kev so it’s an exciting time.

Suns Are Reportedly Expected To Pursue Fred VanVleet This Offseason

The Suns are about to kickstart their two-game homestand before the all-star break tonight against the Sacramento Kings. Let’s see if they can finish the first half of the season strong before Durant returns in a couple of weeks.
