The Arizona Diamondbacks have two things going for them, youth and talent. So much of it, where and how do all these guys get a chance to play. I want to dive into the pitching scenario for this article, what is the projected pitching rotation for 2023?

There are three names that come to mind who are for sure starting 20-30 games for the D-backs barring injury or trade. Merrill Kelly, Zac Gallen, and Madison Bumgarner. Those three monsters will be surrounding by youth this season in the pitching room.

How will the D-Backs navigate through this to find the best spot for all of these talented guys. With 2 maybe 3 starting positions open and I would guess about 4 bullpen spots open.

Back of the Rotation

Zach Davies will probably start the season as the number 4 starter. With Ryne Nelson in line to be the number 5 guy. However 6 weeks into the season I would not be surprised to see Davies and Bumgarner give up a few starts to some younger guys like Tommy Henry, Brandon Pfaadt, and Drey Jameson.

Will Torey Lovullo elect to go to a 6 man rotation to get some guys some experience at the big league level?

Whether he does or not the bottom half of the rotation will go through a lot of changes as the season goes on. This team will be in a wildcard race and be looking to throw their best guys out there on the mound come August.
