The Phoenix Mercury will enter free agency with just three players under contract, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Diamond DeShields, and Brianna Turner. Phoenix will have $881,660 million in cap space, and they are more than likely bringing back Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi. Both Players have spent their entire WNBA careers with the Mercury.

After bringing back Griner and Taurasi, it will be hard for the Mercury to afford Kia Nurse or Sophie Cunningham. Nurse missed all of last season with an ACL injury; The Mercury should try their best to bring back Cunningham; she is a restricted free agent.

Cunningham played fantastic last season; she averaged a career-high 12.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. She was a big reason why the Mercury made the playoffs. It will be interesting to see what will happen in her contract situation.

Skylar Diggins Smith will have her second child, and it is uncertain when she will return. But, if she does, the Phoenix will have a good “Big 3” and a strong player in Deshields. But, first, they must shore up the small forward spot and bench in free agency.
