“I appreciate the time and care to make sure I was okay and equipped with the tools for this new journey,” Griner wrote. “I also want to make one thing very clear: I intend to play basketball for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this season, and in doing so, I look forward to being able to say ‘thank you’ to those of you who advocated, wrote, and posted for me in person soon.”

It is good to see Griner intending to get back on the basketball court. Many people wondered if she would play after going through what happened in Russia. Sometimes returning to sports help make things easier. Griner has the full support of the Mercury staff.

“We’ll follow her lead, we’ll do whatever she wants,” Mercury president Vince Kozar told ESPN last week. “Part of the joy that she’s brought to people is how she plays and the way she plays and who she is when she plays.
