The WNBA season is officially over, with the Las Vegas Aces winning the championship. ESPN has released their way too early rankings. The Phoenix Mercury ranked 10th in ESPN’s rankings.
Phoenix finished the season 15-21 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Aces. The Mercury’s final ranking at the end of the season was seven. Phoenix dealt with a lot during the season the Brittney Griner situation, Tina Charles‘s contract divorce, and many injuries.
Still, the Mercury managed to make the playoffs, but could not overcome, Skylar Diggins-Smith, leaving the team for personal reasons and Diana Taurasi‘s injury right before the playoffs. So the off-season will be interesting for Phoenix; they only have three players under contract, Diggins-Smith, Diamond DeShields, and Brianna Turner. So it will be a new team playing in Phoenix next year.
