Wednesday night in San Diego, recently called up Corbin Carroll hits his first home run in the MLB. The dugout greeted him with the good ol’ fashion silent treatment, led by manager Torey Lovullo. Daulton Varsho also joined the party of first. Varsho had his first multi home run game tonight, giving him 23 on the season. Carroll and Varsho made history tonight in the batters box.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Carroll and Varsho both hit a solo home run in the 2nd inning off of Yu Darvish, who started tonight for the Padres. Varsho came back up to the plate in the 4th inning and hit another bomb off of Darvish. At the time tying the game 3-3.
Bad Start
Tommy Henry took the mound tonight for the Diamondbacks. In 4.1 innings he gave up 5 runs on 7 hits, his worse start in the majors since being called up late August.
Bats Were Sleeping
Out of the 5 hits the Diamondbacks got through the first 7 innings, Carroll and Varsho combined for 4 of them. Alek Thomas pitched in a single as well.
The D-Backs looked off balance at the plate tonight and seemed to be guessing, and guessing wrong a lot of the time. They had a feeling of desperation, hero ball if you will. Like every player wanted to have that next big swing.
8th and 9th Inning
Still down 5-3 in the top of the 8th inning with 2 outs, Jake McCarthy gets on base with a base hit. Arizona’s 6th to this point. Emmanuel Rivera brought the count to 2-2 and fought off some tough pitches before striking out to end the inning.
All-Star Joe Mantiply came in to pitch the bottom of the 8th inning. Lately they have been giving him more pressure situations, sending him out in the 8th and 9th inning. Mantiply gave up 1 run in the bottom of the 8th, giving the Padres a 6-3 lead going into the 9th.
Josh Hader came in to get the save for the Padres. He did just that by pitching 3 up, 3 down. Diamondbacks lose 6-3, making that two loses in a row.
