It will be a showdown in Phoenix on Wednesday night between the Phoenix Mercury and the Minnesota Lynx. Minnesota is one game behind Phoenix for the eighth seed in the WNBA playoffs.

The Mercury will be without Diana Taurasi for the rest of the season, and hopefully, Skylar Diggins-Smith is back from her non-covid illness. Napheesa Collier is back for Minnesota and is trying to help lift the Lynx into the playoffs.

Phoenix will have their hands full, trying to contain Sylvia Fowles and Collier inside. The Mercury will need to do whatever they can to try and slow those two players down in the paint. However, with the Mercury’s lack of size, the Lynx will look to get the ball inside.

The Mercury must push the tempo and turn it into a fast-paced game. It will give Phoenix their best chance to win. However, they will need big games for Diamond DeShields and Sophie Cunningham to have a chance to win. Also, Diggins-Smith must play at a high level.

This game could come down to what the Mercury will do on the defensive end of the court and how well they rebound. It should be a high-intensity game with both teams fighting for the playoffs; expect the energy in the Foot Print Center to be electric.
