PHOENIX — Phoenix Rising and Monterey Bay FC meet for the second time this season on Saturday, and Rising hopes for a different outcome from their previous encounter.

Rising is coming off its second win of the season, defeating New Mexico United FC on May 10, 2-1. The win earned head coach Pa-Modou Kah and Hope Avayevu USL Team of the Week honors. Kah notes the team’s confidence increased after the win, but they are ready to move on to the next goal.
“I think I’m ready very happy with where [Rising is],” Kah said. “But now it’s ‘Can we now become? Can we progress to make sure that we win the second game?'”

Monterey Bay drew against Rhode Island FC on May 10, 1-1. Mayele Malango scored their only goal in the first half, with Rhode Island tying the match in the second half. They sit second in the Western Conference with a 4-4-2 record this season.
Phoenix and Monterey Bay have met seven times, and Monterey Bay has taken the edge with a 3-2-2 record in that span. During their last encounter on March 29, Rising lost 3-1 with Rémi Cabral scoring its only goal.
