The first half was physical, with Rising having opportunities to get the scoring going but to no avail. With wind gusts up to 22 miles per hour, they struggled to get their shots in the net each time. Monterey Bay had 51% possession while Phoenix had 49%, making it an almost even matchup going into the half.
Rising’s JP Screace would get a pop-up ball back in for its first goal of the match in the 65th minute. Ryan Flood followed with his own goal in the 88th minute for Phoenix, sealing the win for Rising.
