LAS VEGAS — The Phoenix Mercury lost its first preseason game and showed flashes of chemistry in their narrow 85–84 loss to the Aces.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The team couldn’t hold a late-half lead and committed 20 turnovers that sealed the win for Las Vegas. In some instances, it felt like Mercury was not setting up correctly or rushing to get the ball ahead. Chemistry is slowly getting there, and with more playing minutes coming up soon, they’ll be able to keep improving.
This was the first time Mercury played as a group competitively, without stars Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner. They now have to rely on how quickly the team can learn to play well together and their chemistry.

Mercury looks to dynamic guard Kahleah Copper to fill her role as leader. Since the first day of training camp, Copper invited free agents to check the scene out in Phoenix.
“It’s paradise,” Copper summarized the experience with the Mercury.

Adding seasoned veterans Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas only pushes Mercury in the right direction to build on the newer version of this team. The front office sought to bring international talent, such as Monique Akoa-Makani, and players from the past, such as Natasha Mack and Alexis Prince. It adds to the Mercury culture, inviting everyone who works hard or wants to improve to build a “legacy,” as Sabally said during Mercury media day.

It’s only preseason, but the team looks to break away from bad habits now before the official WNBA season begins.
Phoenix will have another chance to build on that trust and chemistry at home this Sunday, May 11 against the Golden State Valkyries at 3 p.m.
