Phoenix fell to San Antonio FC last Saturday resulting in a loss in its debut match in the USL Jägermeister Cup, 1-0. With a 1-3-3 record and three points this season, Phoenix hopes to make a slight turnaround against Colorado Springs before Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup matchup.

Head coach Pa-Modou Kah says he feels for the team, especially because they put in the work and do what’s asked of them. However, he believes the team will see positive outcomes soon enough.

“At this moment it’s a little bit of a struggle, but it’s a great struggle to go through,” Kah said. “Some teams, you need it, but we’re going to get out on the other side stronger.”

Colorado Springs mirrors Phoenix, with a similar record and losing its last match, 3-2, against San Antonio on April 23. Despite the loss, Colorado Springs battled with San Antonio, holding a 2-0 lead after the first half. Phoenix and Colorado Springs have met 16 times in regular season matches and Phoenix has gone 7-7-2 in that frame.
