It was a rough outing for Eduardo Rodriguez, as it was not his night. Rodriguez only pitched four innings and gave up eight runs on nine hits.

It started early as Tyrone Taylor hit a double scoring Luisangel Acuña, then with José Azócar hitting a single to right bringing in Taylor. Shortly after, Rodriguez gave up a two-run home run to Francisco Lindor. The Mets had a four-run second inning and never looked back. The very next inning after a Pete Alonso walk, Eduardo Rodriguez gave up another two-run homer to Starling Marte, and a single to Taylor as he scored Acuña making it a 7-1 game in the third inning.

Ryne Nelson entered the game after Rodriguez exited in the fourth inning. It was a night and day difference on the mound for Arizona, as Nelson went four innings as well, but didn’t allow one hit while striking out three. Nelson truly made the most of his opportunity today, which is something the D-Backs can’t ignore going forward.

The D-Backs offense couldn’t get anything going as Corbin Carroll, Eugenio Suárez, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. all went 0-4 on Tuesday. Geraldo Perdomo was the only D-Back that had multiple hits in the contest. Arizona had their opportunities at times, though they were stymied by the Mets defense. Eugenio Suarez, Randal Grichuk, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. all had hard hits that were smoked in the top of the fourth inning, and couldn’t get a hit due to the incredible plays made by New York.

Arizona will look for a quick turnaround tomorrow as they look to contend with this surging New York Mets ball club. The second game of their three game series is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 30th with first pitch at Citi Field at 4:10 p.m. MST.
