In an exciting turn of events, Phoenix Suns teammates Kevin Durant and Ryan Dunn are facing off on Sunday in the 74th annual NBA All-Star Game. How is this possible?

Durant got in the natural way, becoming an All-Star for the 15th time in his career and being named a starter for the 13th time. Dunn, a 22-year-old rookie on the other hand, made his way to Sunday by winning the Castrol Rising Stars tournament on Friday.

As a part of Team Chris (Mullin), Dunn defeated Team Tim (Hardaway Jr.) and Team G League in a four-team tournament to advance to the brand new, revamped All-Star mini-tournament.

How does it work? Three teams of NBA All-Stars — coached by Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith — and a fourth team (the winner of Rising Stars) will compete in a single elimination, four-team tournament. There will be three games played; two semifinals and one finals game. Each game will be played to a target score of 40 points.

Team Kenny’s Young Stars and Team Chuck’s Global Stars will be playing the first game at 8:20 p.m. EST, followed by Durant and Team Shaq’s OGs squaring off against Dunn and Team Candace’s Rising Stars.

Dunn and his All-Star Suns teammate have already exchanged some friendly banter ahead of the matchup, reminiscing on playing against each other in training camp.

How to watch

Sunday’s game is the culmination of the NBA’s 2025 All-Star weekend, which has been exclusively shown on TNT, TBS and TruTV. If you have cable or any cable streaming service such as DIRECTV Stream, Hulu + Live TV or MAX, you are able to watch it. Each service comes with its own 3-7 day free trial.
