GLENDALE – NFL fans around the league took notice of NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin’s recent comments calling Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Wilson a “nobody” after his recent three-year contract extension.

Michael Irvin has never been afraid to speak his mind. The Cowboys legend recently offered a blunt assessment of today’s NFL receiver market while appearing on stream with Neon, pointing specifically to Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson. “I saw a guy today; he had 73 catches, and got $25M a year. I caught 110 balls, I would be getting $60M a year,” Irvin said. The comment immediately sparked attention because Wilson has become an important part of Arizona’s offense, and Irvin’s description of him as “nobody” certainly won’t sit well with Cardinals fans.

Wilson’s contract is not necessarily about being one of the NFL’s top receivers; it is about what he means to Arizona. Wilson’s development has given the Cards a reliable outside presence and another weapon alongside quarterback Jacoby Brissett. His 1,000-yard season demonstrated that his role is growing, and Arizona clearly believes his best football could still be ahead.

That is why the $75 million commitment matters. Irvin is comparing eras, production, and compensation through the lens of a Hall of Fame receiver who played in a very different NFL. The modern game has transformed the value of elite and ascending receivers, with contracts reflecting not only past production but projected importance. But calling him a “nobody” misses the point. Arizona paid Michael Wilson because they believe he can become a player who is a staple in their offense for years to come. For Cards fans, that distinction may be the most important part of this entire debate.
