After recently agreeing to a buyout with star shooting guard Bradley Beal, the Phoenix Suns have been in contact with the Golden State Warriors about restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga (Credit Jake Fischer | The Stein Line). The average of $25 million per year, even in the short term, is the rumored desired salary for Kuminga at this point.

Chances of Jonathan Kuminga landing with the Phoenix Suns:
It hasn’t been a stable situation for Kuminga in Golden State, as he has voiced his concerns about needing a bigger role. There will be some hurdles to jump through if the Suns do want to pursue Kuminga. The Warriors have been adamant about receiving first-round picks as compensation, which Phoenix does not have. There is a good chance that if the Suns want to finalize a deal, a third party may need to be involved.

What truly separates Kuminga is his ability to create a ton of space for guys like Devin Booker and Jalen Green. His skillset of being able to slash and drive could provide ample opportunities while also addressing a lob threat. The 23-year-old averaged 15.3 points per game and shot 45.5% from the field goal range in 47 games played for the Golden State Warriors during the 2024-2025 season.

Although they have had their eyes on the Warriors star for a while, Kuminga has been tied to other franchises such as the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls as well. For the Suns at this point in time, taking a chance on a guy like Kuminga could end up being beneficial.
