ATLANTA – The 2025 MLB Home Run Derby is tonight in Atlanta at Truist Park, and Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez is not among the participants.

One of the National League’s most consistent power producers in the first half of the season has been left out of the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby field in a bizarre omission.

Eugenio Suárez already has 31 home runs on the season at the All-Star Break, ranking fourth in the entire league behind Cal Raleigh, Aaron Judge, and Shohei Ohtani. Suárez’s .569 slugging percentage is fifth in the MLB as well so far in 2025, yet his name was not included when Major League Baseball revealed the eight-man derby lineup earlier this week.

This year’s contest will feature sluggers like Cal Raleigh (38 HR), James Wood (24 HR), Junior Caminero (23 HR), and Oneil Cruz (16 HR). Several selections skew younger and more marketable, with players like Wood and Caminero viewed as rising stars. Meanwhile, Suárez, a veteran with over 300 career home runs, remains on the outside looking in.

Reactions to Eugenio Suarez’s absence in the Home Run Derby:

There was no formal explanation for Suárez being left out. While his .250 batting average and .320 OBP do not stand out in traditional metrics, his raw power has remained among the best in the National League. His exclusion suggests the Derby’s selection process continues to favor players with breakout momentum or storyline appeal over pure statistical merit.

Arizona has benefited significantly from Suárez’s power. But his steady production wasn’t enough to earn him a place in Monday night’s showcase. If his home run pace holds, his case for future Derby inclusion will only grow stronger, and harder to ignore.
