SAN DIEGO – Veteran starting pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez made it clear that the Arizona Diamondbacks don’t have a talent problem as much as they have a timing problem. Rodriguez challenged his teammates to play with greater urgency, emphasizing that the club controls what happens next. Rodriguez told Burns and Gambo from Arizona Sports: “We got experience from last year, so we just got to go out there and keep winning games because that’s the only way we’re going to make the front office change their approach to it. It’s in our hands.”

That statement carries more weight than a typical clubhouse cliché, and Rodriguez understands the calendar. Every July, contenders separate themselves while front offices decide whether to invest in a playoff chase or prepare for the future. Arizona’s recent postseason experience proves this roster is capable of competing, but potential doesn’t influence deadline decisions. Results do. His comments also reflect a veteran’s understanding of baseball’s business side. Executives don’t buy at the trade deadline based on optimism. They buy because players give them a reason to believe another addition can make a meaningful difference.

For Diamondbacks fans, that’s the most important takeaway. The next stretch of games isn’t simply about climbing the National League standings. It’s about convincing the organization that this season deserves additional resources. Every victory strengthens the argument for adding pitching, bullpen depth, or another impact bat, and every loss weakens it. Rodriguez’s message also reinforces the culture Arizona has tried to build since the D-backs’ World Series run in 2023.
