The pair of recent franchise greats clearly meant a lot to the third overall pick, who looks to make his new mentors proud during his rookie season.

Love reacts to Johnson and Golden’s video:

Johnson and Golden played a combined 12 seasons in Arizona. The pair arrived in 2015, being drafted in back-to-back rounds. Their arrival has a direct correlation to the team’s best season in franchise history, winning 13 games in the regular season. Despite losing in the NFC Championship game, the young cast of stars looked to be just the beginning. That wouldn’t turn out to be the case.

Head coach Bruce Arians would be gone two years afterwards, Golden the year after that and Johnson in 2019. Soon, the once promising young core had been dismantled and heading into a new direction with Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury/Jonathan Gannon. after seven years that era has ended, leading to Love’s arrival.

In Johnson’s video, he wanted Love to represent for all running backs by proving drafting that position third overall is not a reach. In the Pro Bowler arrived his rookie season, he proved people that being young doesn’t hinder one’s player from making an impact. Now, Love has the same opportunity, joining a 3-14 Arizona team desperate for some life. Reigniting the flame that was the 2015 season seems unlikely, but Love’s skillset is more than capable.
