Sabally’s decision not to re-sign with the Mercury reflects a broader reality across the league, where a wave of free agents is seeking new homes ahead of the 2026 season. For Phoenix, it means losing a versatile forward while once again working to mold a new identity.
Known for her length, scoring ability and defense, the three-time All-Star offered flexibility on both ends of the floor. Replacing that combination will require extensive development or targeted additions as the league continues trending toward positionless basketball.

On the other side, Sabally made a strong impression on fans, many of whom initially hoped the reports were not true and that she would remain in the Valley. Along with Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper as part of a “Big Three,” she helped lead a rebuild that reached the WNBA Finals in 2025 — a run fans embraced as she gave her all during her short time in Phoenix.
Sabally’s message, while brief, provided closure on the report and marked a turning point for both sides as free agency moves forward.

For the Mercury, roster building has become even more critical. For Sabally, it means looking toward a new opportunity after her contributions in Phoenix.
