MILWAUKEE — The basketball world was buzzing about Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo’s 83-point game on Tuesday night, congratulating him and reflecting on the historic night — except Collin Gillespie.

Adebayo moved past Kobe Bryant for the second-highest single-game total in NBA history, trailing only the 100-point game by Wilt Chamberlain. The Phoenix Suns guard was frank when Arizona Central’s Duane Rankin asked him about the performance following the team’s 129-114 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Shrugging off the historic night, Gillespie made it clear the accomplishment didn’t mean much to him.

“They told me when I came in here,” Gillespie said to Rankin postgame. “A couple of people texted me about it, too. But yeah, I don’t really care.”

Adebayo’s historic night quickly became one of the most talked-about performances in league history, as social media exploded with athletes, celebrities and even other NBA players giving their thoughts on the game. However, Gillespie’s indifference reflected the mentality Phoenix has used to define its season: maintaining focus and blocking out outside noise.

That mindset has helped the Suns maintain internal consistency while navigating a crowded Western Conference race. With only a few games separating them from the No. 6 seed, league-wide storylines carry little weight in where Phoenix hopes to finish the regular season.

Suns fans appreciated Gillespie’s honesty, especially his willingness to stay focused on the team’s goals instead of getting caught up in conversations happening around the league.

Adebayo’s performance will remain a historic milestone, but in Phoenix, the conversation remains much simpler — getting healthy and continuing to play with urgency.

The Suns continue their road trip, facing off against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday, March 12, at 4 p.m.
