GLENDALE – ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss reported on Tuesday on a source that might’ve prove that the Arizona Cardinals are lying. When the franchise made the decision to fire head coach Jonathan Gannon, general manager Monti Ossenfort was asked about the status of  seven-year veteran quarterback Kyler Murray. Ossenfort claimed that he’s talked with the two-time Pro Bowler, and at the NFL Combine on Tuesday he stated the same thing.

However, Weinfuss has a source that refutes that claim, as the two sides haven’t talked since the season ended on Jan. 4th.

Ossenfort at the NFL Combine:

“Yeah, I’ve always had a good dialogue with Kyler,” Ossenfort said. “And I’d say [last season] wasn’t up to what Kyler wanted. It wasn’t up to what any of us wanted as a season as a whole.

“And, so, when you have the kind of year that we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement, and so we got to find a way to do that, not only at that position, in all positions, but that’s what we’re all focused on, is getting better and moving forward.”

The news isn’t entirely shocking, with reports indicating that Arizona has been looking to move on from Murray since his soft benching in Week 9. In his seven years in the Valley, the 28-year-old has brought the Cardinals to one playoff appearance, but one could question the quality of the roster surrounding him.

Ossenfort survived the end of season firing’s by owner Michael Bidwill and seems motivated to improve the roster in anyway to keep his job. For the 48-year-old, he sees that as trading Murray and finding a new quarterback under center for new head coach Mike LaFleur. Everyone in the Cardinals organization has stated that they’ll elevate the QB position in the offseason, which could really just mean waiting till the new league year, March 11th, to trade Murray.
