Even after he departed from ASU, Skattebo has remained a fan favorite and continued to influence the program’s culture. Whether it’s Sun Devils jerseys or Giants jerseys in the stands, the former Sun Devil’s selection as honorary captain is a culmination of his rise in Arizona and his path to the NFL.

ASU fans have embraced the announcement, welcoming back one of the key players who helped the team win a Big 12 title in its first year in the conference.

Skattebo’s addition also comes during a crucial final stretch of the season, as both ASU and Arizona enter Friday’s game with the same record and hopes of staying in the Big 12 playoff hunt. With national attention on the latest Duel in the Desert, adding a player who made program history will only bring more eyes to the game.

During his time at Arizona State, Skattebo recorded 2,561 rushing yards and 31 rushing touchdowns on 474 carries.

While only an honorary role, the Sun Devils having a passionate former running back involved in one of the most anticipated games against a state rival will no doubt make the matchup even bigger.

Arizona State and Arizona will face off in the Territorial Cup on Friday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m.
