Cunningham spent six seasons with the Mercury before being traded to the Indiana Fever ahead of the 2025 season. Known for her energy, defense and leadership, she is expected to take on roles as both a player and an owner.
“Our game is exploding in popularity,” Cunningham writes in the announcement. “And I’m all in on carrying that momentum forward in any way I can. Both at home in the U.S. and beyond.”

Cunningham joins other WNBA talent, including the Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas, as well as Nneka Ogwumike, Jewell Loyd, Jonquel Jones and others supporting the new women’s basketball league.
Having experienced, seasoned veterans join the project early in its development highlights Project B’s ambition to become a true alternative in women’s basketball. With these signings, the league appears intent on positioning itself as a strong rival to the WNBA, even though the two leagues play at different times of the year.

With players from across the WNBA on board, fans of all teams will have an added incentive to tune in to watch their favorite stars compete and see what the new league has to offer.
As Project B continues adding partners and players, it’s clear the league is focused on securing top talent with significant experience.
