TEMPE — Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is close to returning, as head coach Kenny Dillingham said he is a “game-time decision” ahead of Saturday’s game against Colorado.

Tyson has been out with a hamstring injury sustained on Oct. 18 during the Sun Devils’ win over Texas Tech. He returned to practice this week and coaches are monitoring his progress to determine whether he’ll be available Saturday.

“We’ll see here [Tyson] stands today,” Dillingham said on Bickley & Marotta Mornings. “And then probably make a game-time decision when we’re all on the field and he’s running around pre-game.”

Losing Tyson has forced Arizona State to adjust offensively after being without one of its top receivers. Before the injury, Tyson had 57 receptions for 628 yards and eight touchdowns.

Still, ASU has remained in contention for the Big 12 Championship despite missing a key part of its core. The Sun Devils have gone 2-1 since the Texas Tech game and have relied on receivers, like Derek Eusebio and Raleek Brown, to help fill in.

Even while sidelined, Tyson has consistently attended practices and games to support his teammates. Dillingham said he admires how Tyson continues to contribute despite his circumstances and how he has refused to let the injury bring him down.

“[Tyson] is an ultimate teammate,” said Dillingham. “He’s a dude who could shut it down… His mindset, from day one, is I wanna help this football team and I wanna do whatever I can with my brothers on the field.”

The game against the Buffaloes will be one of Arizona State’s most important yet, as the Sun Devils need a win to keep their Big 12 title hopes alive. Other scenarios must fall their way, but ASU first has to take care of business against Colorado.

They’ll need as many key players on the field as possible, so Tyson’s status offers some optimism that the projected first-round NFL pick could be available for the crucial matchup.

Arizona State heads to Boulder to face Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m.
