Ryne Nelson had a very uncharacteristic start on Friday night. Los Angeles came out hitting as Nelson gave up four earned runs in the first inning including giving up two home runs to Zach Neto and Yoan Moncada. Nelson settled in a little after that, as he didn’t allow a run after that. Though it wasn’t his best outing, as he was only able to pitch four innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits.

Arizona answered back early as they were able to tie the game up in the top of the second inning. It started with Randal Grichuk blasting a home run 430 feet to left field. The D-Backs kept the hits coming as Alek Thomas hit a double to left to score Blaze Alexander. Jose Herrera then followed his lead with a single to score Alek Thomas and tie the game up 4-4.

The game slowed down a little bit until the bottom of the fifth inning. Kendall Graveman came in and replaced Ryne Nelson, but gave up a double to Luis Rengifo that scored Logan O’Hoppe, as the Snakes then trailed Los Angeles by a score of 5-4.

Randal Grichuk took the moment into his own hands yet again when he smashed a solo homer to deep center field to tie it up 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning, for his second home run of the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, Kyle Backhus came in to close for the D-Backs and couldn’t get the job done. The Angels were able to walk off Arizona after Travis d’Arnaud came in to pinch hit and hit a single to score Luis Rengifo and defeat the Snakes by a score of 6-5 on Friday night.
