PHOENIX – One of the many teams interested in Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant this past NBA trade deadline was the Minnesota Timberwolves. When the franchise was shopping around the 36-year-old, Minnesota was extremely motivated to pair Durant with their 23-year-old superstar guard Anthony Edwards. However, the deal wasn’t able to materialized, but that could reheat in the offseason.

Timberwolves interested in Suns star:
Durant and Edwards relationship flourished last summer at the Paris Olympics, as the then teammates had a stellar friendship off and on the court. The young Timberwolves guard has mentioned a plethora of times that the former MVP is his favorite player. That didn’t stop Edwards from eliminated Durant and the Suns from the playoffs in 2023 in a sweep.

Minnesota has plenty of young talent and winning players to offer Phoenix in any potential Durant trade. The Timberwolves got Gentlemen Swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder and seemingly are back to square one. Forward Julius Randle is a free agent and could be used in a potential sign-and-trade to make the money work for any trade involving the 15-time All-Star.
Randle isn’t an attractive option for a Phoenix team that is landlocked by the 2nd apron on making a move, with the addition of a lengthy Randle contract not going to help. Regardless, Minnesota has players like center Naz Reid, guard Nickiel Alexander-Walker and other valuable winning players that general manager Brian Gregory could reap in a Durant deal.

Lost in the shuffle of all the Durant trade rumors, is keeping franchise shooting guard Devin Booker happy. The four-time All-Star wants to continue to contend and getting any of those rotational pieces from the Timberwolves will help in that chance, as Minnesota has made it back-to-back Western Conference Finals with essentially the same roster.
