Suns finished in-person interviews for finalists in head coaching search

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns head coaching search is wrapping up the final in-person interviews for the head coaching person, according to Arizona Sports John Gambadoro. General manager Brian Gregory and his staff have interviewed four out of the five finalists, them being Cleveland Cavaliers assistants Jordan Ott, Johnnie Bryant, Miami Heat assistant Chris Quinn and Dallas Mavericks assistant Sean Sweeney. The lone finalist not to be interviewed is Oklahoma City Thunder assistant Dave Bliss.

Gambadoro on Suns coaching search:

Gambadoro mentioned on the “Burns and Gambo” radio show, that the Suns could fly to Oklahoma City to interview Bliss in-person, with his team currently preparing to play in the finals. Gregory and his staff are taking their time during this month-long coaching search, which Gambadoro called the most “extensive” of his sports reporting career.

The decision on the franchise’s next coach will likely happen next week, and before the NBA Finals that start on Thursday. Phoenix has benefited being the only NBA team that has a vacancy as head coach, as it gives them plenty of time to run multiple interviews, background, and vet candidates for the job.

During the radio show, Gambadoro was hesitate to discuss the reports of David Fizdale’s possibility being interviewed to be the next head coach. He did confirm that Gregory and his staff could look to retain Fizdale for next year’s coaching staff as an assistant because he is a well trusted coach around the league.
