Lawlar so far started in six games for the D-Backs and had trouble getting anything going with his bat. Lawlar went 0-for-19 to start his campaign after getting called back up. After Wednesday saw major issues with defensive errors at shortstop, the move to send him back down was predictable.

The D-backs are hoping he will produce at the same level in Reno once he gets back. The No. 4 Prospect in all of the MLB, per MLB Pipeline, will be on deck just in case injuries arise. In the 2025 season so far, Lawler hit a .336 along with six home runs and 13 steals to throw in with it for the Reno Aces.

One of the main issues Arizona tried to avoid was Jordan Lawlar not being able to produce as he wouldn’t have an everyday role to get into a rhythm. The infield is pretty much set with Ketel Marte at second base, Geraldo Perdomo at shortstop, and Eugenio Suarez at third base.
In an according move, the team has called up Ildemaro Vargas who recently just opted out of his minor league contract, as he now signed a major league deal with the D-Backs.
Torey Lovullo spoke about the matter:
“When you ask me the question, ‘Why isn’t he here? Why isn’t he here? Why isn’t he here? There’s a very specific criteria that we follow and we believe in,” Lovullo said. “When you get here, we want you to be able to do X, Y and Z. Sometimes we get a little ahead of ourselves.”
