Schefter reporting the new deal:
Purdy has led the 49ers to two straight NFC championship appearances and to Super Bowl LVIII, where he lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. Regardless, the 25-year-old has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the league the past two years.
In his sophomore season, Purdy threw for 4,280 passing yards for 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, the best touchdown percentage in the league. In 2024, the franchise was plagued with countless injuries, but Purdy didn’t let that sway him, throwing for 3,864 yards for 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Purdy started his football career in Queen Creek, Arizona, where he went on to play for the Perry Pumas. The three-star prospect was the number ranked player in Arizona and led the Pumas to the 6A title game, losing to powerhouse Chandler 49-42.
His stellar high school career earned him a scholarship to Iowa State. Purdy was a four-year starter, and left the program with the most passing yards in history at 12,170. During his senior season, Purdy led the Big 12 in completion percentage and passing yards.

The future Pro Bowl quarterback would enter the NFL draft, expected to be a late Day 3 selection at best. Despite having veteran Jimmy Garoppolo and third overall pick of that year’s draft Trey Lance on the roster. General manager John Lynch took a chance with the 257th pick, drafting the Arizona native and the rest was history.
