PHOENIX — The Sun Devils shook off an early deficit and leaned on their strong offensive power to take the series opener against BYU, earning a 8-3 win Thursday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

He was then relieved by Lucas Kelly and Cole Carlon, who put it away in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, strikings out five and no walks on a total of 33 combined pitches.
The Sun Devil’s struggled early, finding themselves behind 2-1 going into the bottom of the third — then came the turning point where they picked up two runs to take a 3-2 lead. Arizona State did not hesitate to grow their lead in the fourth, with Jax Ryan scoring off of Kyle Walker’s RBI double to right center field, followed by a home run to left by Landon Hairston to bring ASU up 6-2.
Matt King had three RBIs, continuing his productive at the plate and bringing his total for the week to seven in just two games. Himself, Walker, Ryan, and Nu’u Contrades each tallied two hits for ASU.
The Sun Devils (26-16, 12-7) will look to secure their seventh series win of the season Friday night — first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. Arizona time.
