PHOENIX — Former Arizona State freshman phenom Jayden Quaintance is headed back to where it all started — at least in theory.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The 6-foot-10 forward and projected top-five pick in the 2026 NBA Draft has recommitted to Kentucky, his father, Haminn Quaintance, told ESPN on Tuesday. The decision comes nearly a year after Quaintance originally decommitted from the Wildcats, and now reunites him with new head coach Mark Pope in Lexington.
Quaintance, who picked Kentucky over programs like Auburn, USC, Kansas and Ohio State, will bring high expectations and national attention with him, despite recovering from a torn ACL sustained late in the 2023-24 season.

At just 17 years old, Quaintance made an immediate impact for Arizona State this season, averaging 9.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game in 29 minutes. His shot-blocking presence and defensive versatility earned him Big 12 All-Freshman and All-Defensive team honors — becoming just the fifth player in conference history to achieve both distinctions in a single season.
His season came to an abrupt end on Feb. 23 when he suffered a knee injury against Kansas State. He underwent surgery on March 19 to repair a torn ACL, but remains a highly coveted prospect due to his upside, motor, and elite measurables — including a 7-foot-5 wingspan.
Though he’s still in recovery, Quaintance is expected to play a significant role at Kentucky once healthy. His commitment gives Mark Pope’s first recruiting class a major boost and offers the Wildcats a centerpiece for their rebuild following the departure of John Calipari.
With plenty of time to heal and continue developing, Jayden Quaintance is poised to be one of the most-watched players in college basketball in 2025 — and a name NBA scouts will follow closely.
