Suns struggle through disappointing 2024-25 season

PHOENIX- A season that began with championship aspiration for the Phoenix Suns has instead unraveled into one full of frustration, inconsistency, and growing uncertainty about the team’s future.

The Suns currently are on the outside looking in at the Western Conference playoff picture sitting at the No. 11 seed. With just 13 games remaining, their hopes of making the NBA Play-In Tournament are fading fast.

Phoenix’s struggles stem from a combination of multiple factors, including injuries, underwhelming performances, and a lack of chemistry under first-year head coach Mike Budenholzer. The Suns’ star trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal has rarely been at full strength. Beal even missed last week’s game due to injury in their last game against the Raptors.

Defensively, the Suns are ranked among the bottom half of the league in key categories such as opponent points per game and defensive rating. Despite having strong individual defenders, the team has struggled to execute consistently on that end of the court.

The season’s disappointing results have sparked speculation about Budenholzer’s future, with reports surfacing that ownership may consider another coaching change in the offseason.

With less than a month remaining in regular season, the Suns face an uphill battle. If the Suns fail to reach the postseason, they will shift their focus to the offseason – one that could bring major changes to the roster and coaching staff.

For a franchise that made the NBA Finals in 2021 and the Playoffs just last year, the 2024-2025 season has been a harsh reality check.
