PHOENIX — With 1:35 left in the fourth quarter of the Phoenix Suns‘ 116-98 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, Bradley Beal stopped a Donte DiVincenzo off-the-bounce lob to Anthony Edwards by lightly shoving the 23-year-old star in the air as he went for a dunk.

“It’s like scoring at the end of a game when you don’t have to,” Beal said at practice the following day. “Like, they could’ve just scored the ball but we’re not about to turn this into a highlight reel. We’ve already seen enough highlights from them tonight.”

The dunk would’ve added two more to Edwards’ 44 points on the night as he and the Rudy Gobert-less Timberwolves had the Suns completely deflated by the time the fourth quarter came around.
“(Edwards) respected it,” Beal added. “It wasn’t no harm, he knows my intentions were never to hurt him… The team respected it, they were just trying to protect their guy.”
Phoenix (28-33) aim to redeem another deflating loss against the Los Angeles Clippers (32-28), sitting 4.5 games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the final play-in spot in the Western Conference. Dallas just lost All-Star guard Kyrie Irving to a season-ending ACL injury and reports are circulating that Anthony Davis may consider being shut down for the remainder of the season.
