After leading the Phoenix Suns to a 2-1 record to start the year, Kevin Durant was a nominee for Western Conference Player of the Week, but lost out to Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The 36-year-old Durant has averaged 28.7 points on .527/.500/.800 shooting splits, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1 block through Phoenix’s first three games. Durant’s 28.7 points per game currently rank eighth in the NBA.
Davis is tied for the league lead in points per game at 34 on .571/.400/.800 shooting splits, is 11th in the NBA in rebounds per game (11.0) and is tied for sixth in blocks per game (2.3). Los Angeles has been on fire to start the year with its first 3-0 start since 2010-11 under new coach JJ Redick.
The Oklahoma City Thunder (3-0) had two nominees for the award in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren, as did the Los Angeles Clippers (2-1) in James Harden and Ivica Zubac. Davis’ teammate LeBron James was the other nominee. Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum won the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

Davis’ Lakers and Durant’s Suns will square off for already the second time this season tonight at Footprint Center.
In the teams’ first meeting this season, a 123-116 Lakers win last Friday, Davis ended with a game-high 35 points on 11-of-18 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Durant finished with a team-high 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting to go along with six assists and four rebounds in the loss.
