The long offseason standstill between former ASU wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has finally reached a resolution, with Aiyuk now staying in the Bay after requesting a trade in July.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to NFL Network insiders Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, they both reported that Aiyuk has signed a four-year contract extension worth $120 million and $76 million is guaranteed.
“Sources to me and Ian Rapoport: The 49ers and WR Brandon Aiyuk have agreed on a four-year, $120 million contract extension with $76 million in guarantees,” Garafolo said. “Hold-in over. Trade request withdrawn. Aiyuk’s agent Ryan Williams and the Niners strike a deal to keep him in Santa Clara.”

This turn of events comes after Aiyuk missed San Francisco’s mandatory training camp and both of the team’s preseason games. The 49ers activated his fifth-year option on his rookie contract and is set to make $14.1 million this upcoming season.
Off of a career year in 2023, he had 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, being one of the key contributors to San Francisco’s Super Bowl LVIII run. Overall in four NFL seasons (2020-23), the Nevada native has played 62 games (60 starts), collecting 3,931 receiving yards from 262 receptions and scoring 25 touchdowns.
As one of the best receivers in the league, he was going to be paid lower than the top 20 players in his position.
Now that Aiyuk has been awarded this new deal, however, only Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions), A.J. Brown (Philadelphia Eagles), CeeDee Lamb (Dallas Cowboys) and Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings) earn more.
With Aiyuk remaining a 49er, San Francisco has kept a trio of former ASU teammates in the wide receiver room intact.
Aiyuk, free agent signing Frank Darby and 2024 first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall were all Sun Devils together in the 2019 season where they went 8-5. Aiyuk was at Arizona State during 2018-19, the Corona del Sol High School product Pearsall suited up for his hometown school from 2019-21 and Darby played 40 games across four seasons (2017-2020) in Tempe.
Even though he has missed the entire preseason, Aiyuk will now be eligible to practice before the ‘Niners host the New York Jets on Sept. 9.
