In a recent appearance on the Burns and Gambo show, Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo shared injury updates on Gold Glove first baseman Christian Walker and All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte.

Before landing on the injured list just before the trade deadline, Walker experienced one of his most notable slumps of the season, with his batting average dropping from .271 on July 4th to .254 on July 29th. This downturn followed one of the best three-game stretches of his career, where he hit five home runs during the Diamondbacks’ memorable series win over the Dodgers.
While Lovullo couldn’t provide a specific date for Walker’s return to the D-backs lineup, he noted that Walker is progressing quickly.
As for Ketel Marte, it appears that he will return after Walker, based on Lovullo’s comments. Marte, who last started a game on August 17th, is still symptomatic and not yet ready to rejoin the lineup.
Reflecting on the D-backs’ recent series sweep over the Marlins, which followed a sweep by the Rays, Lovullo described his team as hungry, determined, and focused. Before their current road trip, the Diamondbacks had gone 11-2 during a grueling stretch of 13 games in 13 days. They are currently four games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and hold sole possession of the top National League Wild Card spot
