After sweeping the Miami Marlins, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ playoff odds have soared to a new season high, with a 90.6% chance according to FanGraphs. With the Padres’ loss to the Mets on Thursday, the Diamondbacks now hold sole possession of the top Wild Card spot and are just four games behind the Dodgers in the NL West.

Since June 1st, no team in baseball has a better record than the Diamondbacks.

In a recent segment on MLB Network, former MLB player Mark DeRosa gave the Diamondbacks high praise, ranking them as the 4th most compelling World Series contender.

The Diamondbacks were ranked above the Phillies, who placed 5th, and notably, the Padres, who were unranked. DeRosa commented, “If they can get Ketel Marte to 100%, and Christian Walker, they can make another run.”

Walker, out since the trade deadline, recently began hitting off a tee and has reportedly shown no symptoms. Meanwhile, Ketel Marte was placed on the 10-day IL a few days ago, but the Diamondbacks are hopeful he will return by season’s end. Stepping up to fill the holes of these two absences have been rookie sensation Adrian Del Castillo and Corbin Carroll, who has hit six home runs since August 7th, nearly doubling his season total.

Ahead of the Diamondbacks in DeRosa’s World Series contender standings were the Houston Astros at No. 3, the New York Yankees at No. 2, and the Los Angeles Dodgers at No. 1.

Despite having a lower record, the Diamondbacks were ranked above the Phillies, Brewers, Guardians, and Orioles.

The last time Arizona made the postseason in back-to-back seasons dates all the way back to 2001 and 2002.
