Though it is not going to officially count as a win or loss toward their records this season, it will be a Brotherhood Run charity exhibition game inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. The proceeds raised from the event will go to Duke Children’s Hospital.
For Hurley. this will be a game that means so much to him.
Playing under the legendary Mike Krzyzewski aka “Coach K,” Hurley played four seasons (1989-93) as a Blue Devil where he was a two-time national champion in 1991 and 1992, the NCAA assists leader (1,076), helped Duke go 119-26 during his tenure there, has his No. 11 retired by the school and was inducted into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
“I’m grateful to Jon Scheyer and Duke Basketball for working with Arizona State Basketball to make this exhibition game a reality,” Hurley said in Duke’s press release. “It will be special for me to return to Cameron Indoor. Our team is excited for the opportunity to compete against a storied basketball program prior to embarking on our regular season schedule. The collaboration between Duke and Arizona State to put together this charity exhibition game supporting Duke Children’s Hospital is very meaningful to both programs.”
Duke went 27-9 last season and advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament. Led by presumptive generational talent Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 recruit of the 2024 class, the Blue Devils have a stacked team of five-star recruits who will look to carry on the tradition of the program’s success. Isaiah Evans (No. 13), Kon Knueppel (No. 18) and Patrick Ngongba II (No. 21) are all in the top 25 recruits this season, according to 247Sports.
For Hurley and Arizona State, the Sun Devils finished 14-18 last year. With five-star recruits Jayden Quantaince and Joson Sanon added to the mix of other transfers and talent on the roster, however, there is a realistic chance that ASU could make some noise in the Big 12 this year.
The game between ASU and Duke is set for Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. PT.
