With the deadline to sign rookie guard Celeste Taylor just hours after the Phoenix Mercury beat the Chicago Sky 85-65, her seven-day contract expired Thursday night and she has quickly found a new team.

The Connecticut Sun signed Taylor, the Indiana Fever’s second-round (15th overall) pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, to a seven-day contract after her previous deal with the Mercury expired at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.

To start the season, she played five games with the Fever before being waived on June 25.

Then on July 12, the Mercury signed her and she was immediately put into action. Coming off the bench for Phoenix head coach Nate Tibbetts, the Ohio State product Taylor debuted for the Mercury against the Fever in a 95-86 loss where she played 24 minutes since Natasha Cloud was out with a left knee injury and the team only had six healthy players after Brittney Griner took a knock.

The 23-year-old appeared in just four games for the Mercury until her contract duration expired. She averaged 2.5 points, 1.8 assists and 1.0 rebounds per game. Against the Sky, Taylor scored a career-high six points.

A free agent for not even 24 hours, the No. 2 seeded Sun signed her as they look to secure one of the top playoff spots before the regular season concludes. Connecticut is 18-6 and returns from the Olympic break tonight against the Dallas Wings. The Sun are led by stars DeWanna Bonner, Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones and DiJonai Carrington who have helped the team be just three games back of the best team in the league, the New York Liberty.
