The announcement of his passing was shared on the official X account of the Bravos de León, the Mexican League team he played for this season. Per MLB’s transaction page, Moronta was released by León last Thursday.

Moronta, before spending this season in the Mexican League, spent six years in Major League Baseball. He made his debut with the San Francisco Giants in 2017. After four years in San Francisco, Moronta spent half of 2022 with the Dodgers and the other half with the Diamondbacks.

With the Diamondbacks, Moronta struck out 11 batters across 14 innings out of the bullpen. Moronta’s final appearance in MLB came on May 24th as a member of the Los Angeles Angels.
