First rounder Ryan Waldschmidt has signed with the Diamondbacks. The former Kentucky outfielder posted an image of him signing a contract in the Interview Room at Chase Field. Jim Callis, Senior Writer for MLB Pipeline, reports that Waldschmidt has signed for $2.904 million, the full slot value for the No. 31 pick.

Waldschmidt, 21, was selected by Arizona with the No. 31 overall pick. That selection was awarded to them as Corbin Carroll, a prospect who qualified for the Prospect Promotion Incentive as a consensus Top-5 prospect, won the 2023 National League Rookie of the Year. There’s a strong chance they share the same outfield, as Carroll is under contract through the 2030 season.

Waldschmidt profiles as a left field only type defender, but should play the position at a high level due to his good speed and athleticism. He has quality tools across the board, with plus hit, power, and run tools. He’s the type of player who could really blossom under Dave McKay’s tutelage once he reaches the major leagues as both an outfield defender and a base stealer. He should be a fast riser in Arizona’s farm system.

The Diamondbacks now have reportedly signed 12 of their 22 selected players, with signing bonus figures for 11 of those players reported between Jim Callis of MLB and Carlos Collazo of Baseball America. Slade Caldwell, JD Dix, and Travis Garnett remain the only players yet to be signed in the top 10 rounds, although that’s only a matter of when and how much.
