Summer Suns dominate Bucks with 115-90 victory to improve to 2-2

The Phoenix Suns did not look back after an early 21-0 run and blew out the Milwaukee Bucks 115-90 to improve to 2-2 in the 2024 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

The Bucks dropped to 0-4 with the loss, which was the second-to-last game for both teams in Vegas. Phoenix and Milwaukee will both play tomorrow afternoon with the Suns playing the Sacramento Kings at 12:00 p.m. MST.

This game was not close at all, but because it was summer league, where players are evaluated based on individual performances, Phoenix continued to give maximum effort. The Suns ended shooting 46.7% from the floor and 38.6% from 3 and forced 16 Milwaukee turnovers, which led a 27-9 advantage on points off turnovers. Phoenix had 26 assists to eight turnovers as a team.

Isaiah Wong was the standout performer for Phoenix, finishing with a team-high 19 points (7-9 FG, 1-2 3PT), four rebounds, four assists and a steal in 19 minutes.

Here’s how the four players to watch in our Suns Summer League preview fared in their fourth game, highlighted by Oso Ighodaro and Jalen Bridges:

  1. Ryan Dunn: 8 PTS (4-10 FG, 0-3 3PT), 6 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, +17 in 23 MIN
  2. Oso Ighodaro: 8 PTS (2-7  FG), 11 REB, 5 AST, 2 BLK, +19 in 23 MIN
  3. David Roddy: 14 PTS (5-9 FG, 3-5 3PT), 5 REB, 3 AST, +10 in 22 MIN
  4. Jalen Bridges: 16 PTS (6-14 FG, 4-10 3PT), 4 REB, 2 STL, +20 in 19 MIN

Chris Livingston had a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting and eight rebounds for Milwaukee. The Bucks played much better in the second half to improve their shooting percentage to 47.2% for the game after shooting just over 30% in the first half.

Game Flow

The Suns went on an incredible 21-0 run after the Bucks scored the first two points of the game, showing great ball movement and defensive pressure early. Milwaukee shot 0-for-11 over this stretch and Phoenix had five assists on six made shots, while seven different Suns got in the scoring category early. Milwaukee did not score again until there was 3:07 left in the quarter. Phoenix led 31-11 at the end of the first.

The Suns held the Bucks to 30.8% shooting as a team on their way to a 56-33 halftime lead. Wong played a big part of getting Phoenix in front with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and two rebounds and two assists. Dunn, Ighodaro, Roddy and Bridges all had great performances in the first half.

Bridges had one of the best stretches of the Suns’ players to watch near the end of the third quarter with a seven points, a nice assist and two steals in four minutes. The Suns led 86-62 going into the final quarter.

Phoenix kept its foot on the gas  in the fourth quarter. Logan Johnson, who had not played all summer league, came in at the end of the game and scored six points in the last three minutes.

The Summer Suns are play their final summer league game tomorrow (July 20) at 12:00 p.m. MST against the Sacramento Kings (1-3). The game will be televised on NBA TV and ESPN+.
