Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham took advantage of all of the hype and anticipation surrounding the upcoming EA Sports ‘College Football 25’ release.

In a video posted by the Sun Devil football team yesterday, Dillingham promised free early copies of a special “Arizona State legends edition” of the game, which is scheduled to come out on July 19, to the four players on the team who could hold a plank the longest.

Instead the legend edition turned out to be fake, as when the winning players opened the box, they found Disney’s “A Goofy Movie.”

The good news for the players is that even though there was no special, early ASU edition, they will eventually get the game for free due to the licensing agreement. Collegiate athletes that agreed to be featured in the game get $600 and a free copy of the game–they will just have to wait a little bit longer. Up to 85 players per school will be included in the game.

In a gameplay deep dive trailer released last month, the unofficial ratings for several teams, including Arizona State can be seen. ASU was a lowly 71 overall with a 64 offensive rating and 70 defensive rating.

To preface that, the subtext below the teams reads “players & team rankings are not final, and subject to change.”

ASU will be entering its first season in the Big 12 next year coming off a 3-9 record that included several injuries and a self-imposed bowl ban in the school’s final year in the Pac-12.

Combining transfers and incoming high school recruits, Arizona State’s 2024 class is ranked No. 44 nationally in the 247 Sports’ composite rankings. The Sun Devils will be bringing in 49 newcomers, second in the country to only Colorado.

The Sun Devils also saw a lot of their key players transfer to other schools this offseason, including quarterback Jaden Rashada (to Georgia), wide receiver Elijhah Badger (to Florida), defensive lineman BJ Green (to Colorado), tight end Jalin Conyers (to Texas Tech) and defensive backs Jordan Clark (to Notre Dame) and Ed Woods (to Michigan State).

Safe to say, Arizona State will have a new-look team for the second-straight season next year, highlighted by Michigan State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt on offense.

This will be EA’s first college football game in the last 11 years.
