This announcement comes after rumblings surfaced that Young was going to be interviewed for the HC job with the Charlotte Hornets. At the time of reporting, Charlotte is still conducting interviews and has not come up with a decision on who they will hire.
Before this season, the Utah native was considered for Phoenix’s head after Monti Williams was fired. Instead of departing Phoenix, however, Young has remained as an associate head coach under Frank Vogel.
The 42-year-old would become the NBA’s highest-paid assistant on June 3, 2023, signing a five-year contract extension worth $10 million with Phoenix.
Brooklyn will now ponder over who will be the next person in charge of the team after firing coach Jacque Vaughn in February. Right now, the Nets’ interim head coach is Kevin Ollie following Vaughn’s departure.
