Last offseason, Young was a popular commodity as he had interviews for multiple head coaching vacancies last season. The 42-year-old was in consideration for Phoenix’s opening after the firing of Monti Williams, but has remained an assistant with Frank Vogel.
Young has been an assistant in the NBA G League, college basketball and in Ireland as well.
Following a two-season (2014-16) stint as the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, he received his first NBA coaching job as an assistant for Philly.
The Utah native was with the 76ers for four seasons (2016-20) before joining the Suns on Oct. 9, 2020.
Then on June 3, 2023, Young would sign a five-year contract extension worth $10 million by Phoenix, becoming the NBA’s highest-paid assistant.
As for Clifford, there are talks that he will step down as head coach and transition into a front-office role within the Hornets’ organization.
