Phoenix are currently 48-33 and will try to avoid the NBA play-in tournament at all costs.

In the No. 6 seed, the New Orleans Pelicans control their destiny as they have a 49-32 record. They will play the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow.

If the Pelicans lose and the Suns win, Phoenix would slide into the sixth seed. However, if New Orleans beats Los Angeles, Phoenix will have to compete in the play-in no matter the result against the Timberwolves.

Understanding the circumstances, Suns head coach Frank Vogel talked about how crucial a victory over Minnesota is to his team.

“It’s a game we got to get if we want to finish in the top six, that’s still the goal for us and it’s within reach,” Vogel said. “We don’t know what’s going to happen with the [Los Angeles] Lakers [New Orleans] Pelicans game, can’t control that. We gotta go in and win that game and continue to improve.”

Recognizing how intense this time of the season is, Kevin Durant expressed that by the Suns playing their best brand of basketball, it will guide them to where they want to be.

“Just digging deep and understanding that in most of these games, every team knows your sets and you in and out as a player, it’s going to come down to who wants it more,” Durant said. “We just got to go out there and play to the best of our abilities. I think the technical side of the game goes out the window when you play in the playoffs. It’s all about will, heart and shot-making.”

Phoenix and Minnesota clash on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. PT inside Target Center.
