GCU announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Jamall Walker departed from GCU after four seasons, heading to Ohio State in the same position.

With the Lopes, GCU has made it to the NCAA Tournament three times in Walker’s four-year tenure in the Valley.

Before joining Grand Canyon, he coached multiple high schools, community colleges and Div. I college programs as an assistant. Walker has been a part of Ball State, Saint Louis, Murray State, Ohio University and Illinois.

In 2017, Walker was named the interim head coach for Illinois after they fired John Groce. The Fighting Illini went 2-1 in the NIT tournament with him at the helm.

Now, the Kansas native will head to Columbus and help the Buckeyes get back into the NCAA Tournament. Ohio State was 22-14 overall last season, with a 9-11 record in the Big Ten.

As for Schilling, he became the new head coach for Pepperdine as of recently. Prior to a four-year (2020-24) stint with GCU and other assistant opportunities elsewhere, Schilling was the head coach at Wright State (1997-2003).

Time will tell who Grand Canyon will bring in to replace both Walker and Schilling.
