Former GCU Basketball Stars Featured on 2026-27 NBA G League Opening Night Rosters

GCU Basketball stars McGlothan and Tyon Grant-Foster

With the NBA G League season tipping off on Friday, rosters across the league have been finalized, and several feature familiar faces from Grand Canyon University Men’s Basketball.

Tyon Grant-Foster – Sioux Falls Skyforce

Although guard Tyon Grant-Foster finished his collegiate career with a final season at Gonzaga, he gained national prominence during his breakout tenure with the Lopes. Grant-Foster’s remarkable comeback came after missing multiple seasons following a cardiac event while playing at DePaul. Now, the electric guard finds himself with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the G League affiliate of the Miami Heat, after being selected 15th overall in this year’s G League Draft.

Gabe McGlothan – Maine Celtics

After a solid performance in the pre-season for Boston, forward Gabe McGlothan will continue wearing green for the Celtics’ G League affiliate in Maine. McGlothan spent four seasons at GCU after redshirting following his transfer from Southeast Missouri State in 2020. During his time in Phoenix, he helped lead the Lopes to the first multiple NCAA Tournament appearances in program history and capped off his college career by winning the 2024 State Farm College Slam Dunk Contest. After navigating G League roster moves and injury setbacks over the past couple of seasons, Maine could be the landing spot where McGlothan earns consistent minutes and potentially a call-up to the NBA.

Isaiah Carr – Capital City Go-Go

Though he spent just one season at GCU, 7-foot forward/center Isaiah Carr built a strong collegiate foundation across stops at Denver, Drake, and GCU. The New Mexico native is a proven defensive rim protector, highlighted by a senior season at Drake where his 37 blocks tied for the ninth-most in a single season in Bulldogs history. Carr was drafted second overall in this year’s G League Draft by the Motor City Cruise (Detroit Pistons), but his rights were quickly acquired by the Washington Wizards’ affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, where he will make his professional debut.

Future of GCU Basketball

With the sustained rise of GCU Basketball, these three alumni are far from the last who will make the leap to the professional ranks. As the G League season gets underway, all eyes are on which former Lope will become the first in the program’s Division I era to officially earn a spot on an active NBA roster.
