After the San Diego Padres acquired Dyland Cease, the 2022 Cy Young runner-up, through a trade with the Chicago White Sox, Torey Lovullo shared his thoughts on the recent trend of stars gravitating towards the NL West.

In 2022, Cease finished with a 2.20 ERA, tossing 9 shutouts.

The ever-growing list of stars that have joined the toughest division in baseball this offseason includes Tyler Glasnow, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler, and now, Dylan Cease.

Joking about this recent development, Diamondbacks‘ manager commented, “I wish the best players would quit coming to the NL West.”

On the bright side, the Diamondbacks had quite a successful offseason themselves, acquiring Eduardo Rodriguez, Eugenio Suarez, and Joc Pederson.

Plus, since MLB has incorporated the blended schedule with less divisional matchups, the Diamondbacks will only be playing each rival 13 times, instead of 20+.
